Circuit Adjustment Mode
On these models, the Circuit Adjustment Mode is used for:
# Test Signal activation
# Horizontal and Vertical Centering
# Auto-alignment of edge geometry
# The following adjustments may only be performed using the remote control.
Horizontal and Vertical Centering Adjustment
1. Activating the adjustment mode
1. Press the “MENU” button on a remote hand unit. (The “MENU” display will appear.)
2. Press the buttons “2”, “4”, “5” and “7” in that order. (Adjustment mode will appear.)
If not changed to the adjustment mode press “EXIT” and repeat steps 1 and 2.
2. Test Signal Activation (for H and V position adjustment)
When in the Circuit Adjustment mode, press “PLAY” then “REWIND” twice on the remote control to activate the test pattern. This pattern is used for H+V electrical centering adjustments. To cycle through the various test patterns, press PLAY then REWIND or FAST FORWARD.
3. Adjustment Function Selection
Use the “AUDIO” button to select a specific Adjustment Function.
NOTE: There are 2 Service Functions on these chassis: “TVM” and the “ASIC” function.
4. Adjustment Selection
Use the “VIDEO” button to select a specific electrical adjustment, “1.HVPOS”.
5. Adjusting Data
After selecting an adjustment item, use the “UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT” buttons to change adjustment.
# If the “UP/DOWN” button is pressed, the VPOS adjustment data changes.
# If the “LEFT/RIGHT” button is pressed, the HPOS adjustment data changes.
6. Saving data
Press “ENTER” to save the adjustment data in memory.
The display characters go red for approximately one second in this step.
Note: If the circuit adjustment mode is terminated without pressing “ENTER”, changes in adjustment data are not saved.
16-Point Geometric Distortion Correction
Summary:
# Calculates new geometry based on positional movement of 16 points
# 16-Point correction replaces mechanical adjustment
# Alignment does not effect center, it only affects the edge geometry
# When the adjustment mode is activated all 16 points will be set to default position
# Pressing the INFO button will perform the distortion calculation and finalize the adjustment
# The adjustment is not saved until the ENTER button has been pressed
# Pressing the ENTER button will save, however it will not indicate this in any manner
# For the adjustment to work properly all 16 points must be aligned before pressing INFO button
NOTE: In the PC Input or FX Game Mode electronic geometric correction is not available.

A. Activating the Adjustment Mode
1. Press the “MENU” button on a remote hand unit. (The “MENU” display will appear.)
2. Press the buttons “2”, “4”, “5”, “7”, pause and then press “0” (Data Selection Mode will appear)
Data Selection Mode
3. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight “MANUAL KEYSTONE GEOMETRY ALIGNMENT” and press ENTER.
The following pattern appears.
NOTE 1: If data is out of range, you may need to perform reset - Press (1) then INFO). This nulls all correction data.
NOTE 2: To restore the original factory correction data, repeat steps 1 thru 3, select “RESTORE KEYSTONE GEOMETRY FROM BACK UP” and press “ENTER”.
B. Manual Keystone Geometry Alignment (There are 2 modes of adjustment: FULL and TOUCH UP)
A. FULL ADJUSTMENT MODE:
Part 1
(Note: if data is out of range, you may need to do a reset before starting - press “1” then “INFO”)
1. When entering the Keystone Adjustment mode you will see the test pattern as shown in the drawing above.
The point in the upper left corner will be a cross.
2. Starting from the 1st point (upper left corner) use the “UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT” buttons to adjust the selected point (selected point is the one that is a cross)
3. Align each point in a straight line, use the bezel as a reference. See example drawing below.
NOTE: Only the cross will move. The pattern will not change.
4. Use “FASTFORWARD” button to move between each point or “REWIND” to go back.
Part 2
5. After all 16 points are aligned properly, pressing the “FASTFORWARD” button again automatically activates the 4:3 mode (there is no change in the display). There are 11 patterns, each with a small variation of distortion in the 4:3 mode vertical lines. Continue pressing “FASTFORWARD” to cycle through the 11 patterns until you find the straightest 4:3 lines, then go to step 6.
6. Press the “ENTER” button to save the adjustment and “EXIT” to leave the Adjustment Mode..
Note: There will be no indication that the save was successful.
3. Verify Geometry by using internal test pattern. If not even, redo the above steps or enter the TOUCHUP ADJUSTMENT MODE (Note: 4:3 adjustment not available in Touchup mode)
B. TOUCH UP ADJUSTMENT MODE
1. Enter the Keystone Manual Geometry Alignment.
2. Use the “FASTFORWARD” or “REWIND” buttons to move to the point you want to touch up.
3. Use the “UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT” buttons to adjust the point. Only the cursor will move, the test pattern will not change.
4. Press the “INFO” button to apply the correction. The test pattern will show the correction. Repeat steps 2-3 as needed.
5. Press the “ENTER” button to save your changes.
6. Press the “EXIT” button to leave the alignment mode.
Note: If data is ever adjusted so that lines are showing severe distortion, you can reset to default data by pressing “1” then “INFO”.

Hitachi Projector - Hitachi CP-W8240 – CP-X8150 – Service mode – White balance adjustment – VCOM Adjustment

Service mode
1. Before starting adjustments, warm up projector for about 10 minutes.
Turn off the automatic keystone function in OPTION Menu. If you changed [AUTO KEYSTONE] from [ON] to[OFF], set to [ON] after adjustment.
2. Set Zoom Wide to Max. And project an image with more than 1m (40 inches) in diagonal size.
3. Normalizing the video adjustments Press the [MENU] button to display the EASY menu. If Advanced menu comes up, move to theEasy menu.
Select the RESET in the EASY menu and press the [Right Arrow  ] or [ENTER] button to open the RESET dialog. Choose the EXECUTE with the [ Right Arrow] button.
4. Perform all adjustments from the FACTORY MENU. Operate as follows to display the FACTORY MENU.
Accessing Service menu Using the Remote
a. Press the [MENU] button of the remote control to display the Easy menu. (If the Advanced menu appears, move to the Easy menu.)
b. Select the RESET in the Easy menu, and then press the [ Right Arrow ] or [ENTER] button.
c. Next, press the [RESET] button one time. And hold the [RESET] button for 3 seconds or longer (the FACTORY MENU will appear)
Accessing Service menu Using Projector Key pad
a. Press the [ UP Arrow], [DOWN Arrow ], [LEFT Arrow ] or [RIGHT Arrow ]  button of the projector to display the Easy menu. (If the Advanced menu appears, move to the Easy menu.)
b. Select the RESET in the Easy menu, and then press the [ Right Arrow ] button.
c. Next, press the [Down Arrow ] button one time. And repress and hold the [Down Arrow] button together with the [INPUT] button for 3 seconds or more (the FACTORY MENU will appear).
VCOM Adjustment
Test patter for adjustment
1. Use DAC-P - V.COM - R: in the FACTORY MENU to adjust so that the flicker at the center of the screen is less than the flicker at the periphery.
(When the flicker is about the same across the whole screen, adjust so that the flicker at the center of the screen is somewhat less than elsewhere.)
2. In the same way, use DAC-P - V.COM-G: in the FACTORY MENU to adjust the G color flicker.
3. In the same way, use DAC-P - V.COM-B: in the FACTORY MENU to adjust the B color flicker.
NOTE: The test pattern shown, sometimes has a horizontal line across the screen.
Ghost Adjustment
Test pattern for adjustment
Adjustment procedure 
1.Set the GHOST R, G, B in OPTION-SERVICEGHOST Menu to 0.
2. Use DAC-P - GHOST - R: in the FACTORY MENU to make the ghosting disappear.

(Set the adjustment value to default, and then raise the value. When the ghosting appears on the left side of the test pattern, decrease the value by 6.)
3. In the same way, use DAC-P - GHOST-G: in the FACTORY MENU to adjust so that green ghosting is at a minimum.
4. In the same way, use DAC-P - GHOST-B: in the FACTORY MENU to adjust so that blue ghosting is at a minimum.
White Balance Adjustment
1. First, adjust the G color.
2. Select GAMMA, SB-CNT, and G: in the FACTORY MENU. If the background is 
solid white, press the [ENTER] key on the Remote control transmitter to change [G] to monochrome in the 33-tone grayscale.
3. Adjust GAMMA, SB-CNT, and G: in the FACTORY MENU so that brightness of 33 steps isbest.
4. Don’t adjust GAMMA, SB-BRT, and G: in the FACTORY MENU because we want to keep thebest contrast ratio.
5. Then adjust colors R and B.
6. Select GAMMA, SB-CNT, and G: in the FACTORY MENU. If the background is solid white, press the [ENTER] key on the remote control to change to [W] monochrome in the 33-tone grayscale.
7. Adjust GAMMA, SB-BRT, R: and B: in the FACTORY MENU so that low-brightness white balance is best.
8. Adjust GAMMA, SB-CNT, R: and B: in the FACTORY MENU so that middle-brightness white balance is best.
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 above, and adjust so that brightness white balance of 33 steps is best.

Service Mode Setting
1. Set the “Status” to “On” in the “Setup” menu.
2. Close the menu by pressing “MENU” if its displayed.
3. Press the buttons in the following order in 5 seconds: ENTER > ENTER > LEFT ARROW > ENTER
4. The message “Do you wish to enter into the SERVICE MODE? Yes No” will be displayed.
5. Select “Yes”.
Model Name Display Mode Setting
1. If the menu is being displayed, press the [MENU] button to close the menu.
2. Press the buttons within 5 seconds in the following order:
ENTER > UP ARROW > DOWN ARROW > ENTER
Even if the message “Not applicable!” is displayed, ignore it. If the key operations failed, wait for at least 6 seconds since the last key is pressed, and perform the key operations again.
3. “Which mode do you wish to display? Model Name Display/Motionflow/Off” is displayed.
4. Select “Model Name Display”.
Motionflow Mode Setting
1. If the menu is being displayed, press the [MENU] button to close the menu.
2. Press the buttons within 5 seconds in the following order:
ENTER > UP ARROW > DOWN ARROW > ENTER
Even if the message “Not applicable!” is displayed, ignore it. If the key operations failed, wait for at least 6 seconds since the last key is pressed, and perform the key operations again.
3. “Which mode do you wish to display? Model Name Display/Motionflow/Off” is displayed.
4. Select “Motionflow”.
IRIS Copy
1. Enter the Service Mode.
2. Set OTHER: 01 Iris/Adj in the Device Menu to 1.
3. Change the value of OTHER: 02 Iris/Open Reg.
4. Change the value of OTHER: 03 Iris/Close Reg.
5. Return OTHER: 01 Iris/Adj in the Device Menu to 0.
6. Perform Save to Memory.

Cleaning the Air Filter and Vents
Clean the projector's air filter or vents if they get dusty, or if you see a message telling you to clean them.
a. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.
b. Gently remove the dust using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (such as a paintbrush).
c. If dust is difficult to remove or the air filter is damaged, replace the air filter.
Replacing the Air Filter
You need to replace the air filter in the following situations:
# After cleaning the air filter, you see a message telling you to clean or replace it.
# The air filter is torn or damaged.
You can replace the air filter while the projector is mounted to the ceiling or placed on a table.
a. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.
b. Slide the air filter cover latch and open the air filter cover
c. Pull the air filter out of the projector.
d. Place the new air filter in the projector as shown and push gently until it clicks into place.
e. Close the air filter cover.
Projector Lamp
The projector monitors the number of hours the lamp is used and displays this information in the projector's menu system.
Replace the lamp as soon as possible when the following occurs:
# The projected image gets darker or quality declines.
# A message appears when you turn on the projector telling you to replace the lamp. (message remains displayed for 30 seconds)
The projector's lamp light is flashing orange.
Replacing the Lamp
You can also replace the lamp while the projector is mounted to the ceiling.
Let the lamp fully cool before replacing it to avoid injury.
# Never disassemble or remodel the lamp. If a modified or disassembled lamp is installed in the projector, it could cause a fire, electric shock, or other damage or injury.
a. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.
b. Allow the projector lamp to cool down for at least one hour.
When replacing the lamp, there is a possibility that the lamp may be broken. If replacing the lamp of a projector which has been installed on the ceiling, you should always assume that the lamp is cracked, and you should stand to the side of the lamp cover, not underneath it. Remove the lamp cover gently. Be careful when removing the lamp cover as shards of glass may fall out and could cause an injury. If any shards of glass get into your eyes or mouth, contact your local physician immediately.
c. Use the screwdriver included with the replacement lamp to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover.
d. Slide the lamp cover out and lift it off.
e. Loosen the screws securing the lamp to the projector. The screws do not come all the way out.
f. Lift up the lamp handle and carefully pull the lamp out of the projector.
g. Gently insert the new lamp into the projector. If it does not fit easily, make sure it is facing the right way. Press the handle down.
h. Push in the lamp firmly and tighten the screws to secure it.
i. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw to secure it.
Reset the lamp timer to zero to monitor the new lamp's usage.
Resetting the Lamp Timer
a. Turn on the projector.
b. Press the [Menu] button on the control panel or remote control.
c. Select the Reset menu and press [Enter].
d. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].
e. Select Yes and press [Enter].
f. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.
